What Is the Message of the Gospel?

The world in which we live is a mess.  It is both broken and badly deteriorating.  This must be obvious to any clear-minded person.  Our lives often reflect this reality.  We must all wrestle with what the Bible calls our “flesh,” or “sinful nature.”

God, who is our Creator, has diagnosed a spiritual cancer that is at work in all human beings – men, women and children.  It is called Sin, and sin is at the root of all human problems, having been given a core place in our hearts.  Suffering and death are its most tangible expressions.

God, who is our Redeemer, loves us, notwithstanding our sin, and has provided the ultimate antidote to our sinful natures and its accompanying afflictions – He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the Cross, thus making His love known to us by having Jesus to bear His divine displeasure instead of us:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3.16, NIV).

God, who is our loving and heavenly Father for those who have put their whole trust in Jesus, forgives our sins, and begins a work of healing and of wholeness that is meant to have a salutary impact upon the entirety of our lives.

We, who have become His beloved children, must confess our sin to Him and repent, which means to acknowledge and to turn away from all that displeases God.  His forgiveness is to be gratefully received, and the Holy Spirit, who is given to us, but for whom we must also ask, begins a whole new and beautiful work in us and through us, a life that declares that we are part of His wonderful family of believers and that makes the love and truth of Jesus Christ to the world.

Would You Like to Receive Jesus Christ into Your Life?  Please pray:

Dear Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner and acknowledge to you that my life is broken and off-track and displeasing to you.  I repent of my sin and receive you into my life as my Savior and as my Lord.  I wish to lovingly honor you with my new life.  Fill me with your Holy Spirit that I may begin to know your blessing, and that I may be a blessing to others in your Name.  I want you to heal and deliver me.  I want you to guide and to direct me.  I wish for you to be pleased with me.  Lead me to a fellowship of believers with whom I may grow in you and begin to serve you.  Thank you for accepting me!  I pray I Your Name.  Amen.

First Steps to Take if You Have Prayed This Prayer:

You are now a Christian; praise God!  Start t seek Him on a more active and regular basis; daily, even.  Begin to read the Bible and start to pray.  Don’t worry about what you don’t yet understand, or about how you sound – God wants to speak with you and to hear from you.  Ask Him to help you to find a church fellowship with whom you will be lovingly received and with whom you can learn God’s Word, and with whom you can worship God in a real and authentic manner.  It doesn’t matter how big or small they are, nor does it matter whether they are contemporary or old-fashioned.  What matters is whether the Word of God is taught and whether the love of Christ is real.  Find out how you can lend a helping hand.  Be committed, both to God and to your Christian family.  Let God fill you with His Holy Spirit so that Jesus Christ may grow inside of you and work through you.  There is no finer life to live!
